Hot melt glue labels

Click: Time:2025-07-24 15:52:27

Hot melt glue labels are a type of label that uses hot melt adhesive as the bonding agent, achieving adhesion by heating to melt the adhesive layer. They are widely used in packaging and labeling scenarios requiring fast and firm bonding. Their core feature lies in relying on the 'heat-melting and cold-solidifying' property of hot melt adhesives, enabling efficient adaptation to surfaces of various materials in automated labeling, while also offering strong bonding strength and good environmental friendliness.

Basic Structure

Hot melt adhesive labels usually consist of three layers:

Surface substrate (printing layer): The carrier for graphic and text information. Depending on requirements, paper-based materials (such as coated paper, kraft paper) or film-based materials (such as BOPP, PET, PE) are selected. It needs to have good printability and weather resistance (e.g., water resistance, scratch resistance).

Hot melt adhesive layer: The core bonding layer. It is in a solid state at room temperature, melts into a fluid when heated, and quickly solidifies upon cooling to generate adhesion, which is key to bonding the label to the substrate.

Release paper (protective layer): Covers the surface of the adhesive layer to prevent the adhesive layer from adhering to itself. It is peeled off during use, and is mostly made of silicone-coated paper or film (which needs to be easily separable from the adhesive layer).

Working Principle

The core property of hot melt adhesives is 'thermoplasticity':

At room temperature, the adhesive layer is in a solid state, protected by the release paper to avoid adhesion.

During labeling, the adhesive layer is heated to its melting temperature (usually 80-180°C, varying by adhesive type) via heating devices of the labeling machine (such as heating rollers, heat guns), converting it into a fluid state.

After the molten adhesive layer comes into contact with the surface of the substrate to be labeled, it bonds under pressure. It then cools rapidly at room temperature (within a few seconds), re-solidifies, and forms a strong bond, completing the label application.
